Funny that it’s a Focus. Since when it blows by you everything looks blurry.

You know dealers will sell these for $50k+ for the first two years right?

I need a Focus RS wagon because more space

As much as I look forward to a review, I still can’t fathom spending $50,000 (Canadian) after taxes on a Focus hatchback. Taxes on the Canadian MSRP brings it to a bit over $53k which makes me very sad (although everything points to this car being awesome).

Wait are the Jalopbrethen at the Focus RS press event?

Oh, so you’ve not been held hostage by Mate. You’ve been “kidnapped” like in
Old School
, and you’re actually in the back of a van drinking.

The financing on them is crazy, too, with the website setting itself at 7%. You might have to be a lottery winner to buy one.

I rarely see you on Oppo Mr G, what gives? Has Mate really taken over Jelopnic?

Boorrrring. Hey, have you guys seen the redesigned Escape? Now that’s exciting!

Funny thing is, even with a lottery win, are you going to limit yourself to a Ford Focus (even if it is hot, like ghost-pepper hot)? As much as I like the idea of the RS, there are a lot of other competing, interesting cars that I'd have in mind if cost was no longer the prohibiting factor.

Just wait a few years when you can buy a used one for 60% of it’s original price.
![]() 01/18/2016 at 15:22 |

Don’t forget the healthy dealer markup. That’ll push the price even higher.

1) My FiST won’t be as valuable a trade then
2) I don’t want to own a used one of these. chances of it being raged upon are nearly 100%. I want to be doing that raging.

Yup, I figured you’d be lucky to pay MSRP + taxes.

The RS was actually on my list of “first five cars I’d buy if I won Powerball.” The price may seem high for a Focus, yes, but when you ignore the badges and just compare to vehicles with similar stats and performance the price is in line with the others. Not sure what the U.S./Canada price is for the Civic Type R, but one of the early RS reviews from the UK pointed out that at least over there the Focus is cheaper than the Type R, despite being more powerful and having all wheel drive.

When the brz came out I saw dealers in Canada marking it up $7-10k. Same with the Golf R. I expect the same thing with this car. At which point it’s the same price as the BMW M235i xdrive and the MB C450.

True... I suppose if I were comparing to something like a Subaru STi the prices would be more comparable, but even then I don’t think the North American ones get the new Japanese engines for whatever reason.
It’s not so much the Ford nameplate as it is the Focus name just because around here you didn’t really see any performance Focuses (Foci?) until the ST came out (I think there were ZX-somethings but I don’t think those were comparable to the Euro ST of the time). This more than likely impacts my perception of the price. That said, if it came with four rings on it and an RS3 badge, I’d be all over it.
So, it turns out I'm not a badge snob unless I can afford to be one. I'm conflicted.

That seems to be reflected in used BRZ prices which are still quite high. The FRS is just below $20k now (typically in the $18-19k range) for the early models.

That is amazing the Honda is priced higher but then I don’t undestand europe at all.
(quick googling) The Euro Type R seems to be a good measure sexier than what we’ll likely get in 2018 which its supposed to be priced in the 30's. NY Market probably mid 30's. If it was ever priced higher here I’d make a point to laugh at the fist honda sales rep I could find and walk away...
no I wouldn’t I used to sell VW’s I respect how hard most of them work.
Either way I’d take the RS over the Type R or a Golf R. Y’know, all VW’s have abouts that same level of interior refinement now so whatever and I always viewed torque vectoring through braking to be bullshiz.
